School Bell Welded Steel Desk Sculpture by Julie Kindt
School Bell Welded Steel Desk Sculpture makes quite the conversation piece and actually works. Just tap the hammer against the curve of the bell and the results is a clear, resonating tone.
The metal bell itself was removed from a vintage electric bell which was recovered from an old school. I then repurposed the curved bell by mounting it on a screw tapped steel rod which is welded on a steel base. The sculpture retains the light rust patina giving it a primitive look. The round steel base has been lightly sprayed with clear paint. The rest of the piece will very slowly continue to attain the rust patina. The vintage hammer is attached to the base with a lightly rusted chain so that it doesn't stray too far from the bell.
Would be an interesting desk bell for a Brick and Mortar shop where guests could give it a tap to announce their arrival. Use it to call folks to dinner, as a garden piece or perhaps a door bell. Though, please note: if you leave it outside it will rust more quickly. This is an adult piece and not meant as a toy for children. The sculpture measures 9" tall, the bell is 6" across, the base is 3" across with an 8" hammer.
Please note that this item is made with reclaimed, recycled and rescued metal. Exact alloys may not always be known. The sculpture may contain rust, small dips, dents, scratches, grinding marks, etc. that make the metal piece unique. This includes the metal bottom that makes contact with the surface it sits on for display. May continue to rust and develop patina even when clear coated. This piece may have sharp edges. These characteristics should be expected on a one of a kind piece such as this.
